5D BIM and Reality Capture

By Studio DHP
While 3D BIM handles spatial geometry, the new standard is 5D BIM, which integrates two critical dimensions: project scheduling (time) and budget estimating (cost). This is increasingly paired with LiDAR scanning (Light Detection and Ranging). By using light sensors to create high-resolution 3D images of a site in real-time, architects can capture millimetric data of existing structures without repeated manual site surveys, ensuring complete alignment between the digital model and the physical site.
